Benjamin's Landmark Monuments

SELECTING A MONUMENT

HEADSTONE

Placed upright on a base, the headstone displays the inscription and design.

BASE

Placed on the foundation, the base upholds the headstone. The headstone and base are made of granite, the most durable and resistant of natural rock.

FOUNDATION

Concrete poured into the ground to uphold the base and headstone, the foundation prevents the monument from leaning and sinking.

INSCRIPTION

Commonly divided into two parts:

The Hebrew portion includes the Jewish name of the deceased, his/her father's name and the Yahrtzeit.

The English portion includes the deceased's given, middle and last name, dates of birth and death, and a reference to surviving relatives. Epitaphs may be added.

DESIGN

Through Jewish symbols such as the Menorah, Lions, Ten Commandments or a Star of David, the design is meant to reflect the life and character of the deceased.
